The Boock Familiy from Neudorf

This page contains information about the Boock family from Neudorf in Schleswig-Holstein dating from 1690 until this day. The roots of the Boock family are in the small village of Neudorf, located 5 miles (*) south of Eckernfoerde at the intersection of the highways to Gettorf and Kiel.
Our first known ancestor is Claus Book who lived in Neudorf from 1697 until 1762. He married the maiden Anna Grewe in 1729. Until 1864 most male descendants lived in the villages around Gettorf. Four brothers emigrated to the U.S. between 1864 and 1880: Bernhard Hinrich, born in 1842, Johann Friedrich born in 1844, Josias Friedrich born in 1855 and Wilhelm Friedrich born in 1861.

We have discovered of this line via internet, but have not been successful so far in our search for Sophie Marie Caroline Henriette Staack née Hooth who lived in Chicago in 1912.

This is a partial reprint of a map drawn in 1710 by J.B. Homann. It shows the area between Preetz, Rensburg and Eckernfoerde. Very nice because 15 years before this map was drawn the first traces of my ancestors turned up in the church records of Gettorf. Then, through 11 generations and over a span of 300 years they lived in this area. They came from Neudorf (shown as Niendorp on the map). Neudorf is just a little north of Gettorf (Gettorp) which is located mid-way between Kiel (Kiell) and Eckernfoerde (Eckrenforde). I grew up in the village of Blumenthal (Bloemendell) which appears at the bottom centre of the map.
